List of Direct Pop Culture References in Season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen

I kept trying to find a comprehensive list somewhere but couldn't. So, here's one for me.

Ninja Warrior and Mirko Cro Crop (Ep1)

Sasuke, or Ninja Warrior as it's known as in multiple incarnations, is a sports reality show in which competitors attempt to complete a four-stage obstacle course.

Mirko Cro Crop is the ring name of Croatian mixed martial artist and kickboxer Mirko Filipović. And yes, Sasaki-senpai does clarify that Mirko's not dead.

Jennifer Lawrence (Ep2)

This one is possibly the most infamous reference in JJK actually. Of course, Yuuji is referring to American actress, Jennifer Lawrence. Gege Akutami said in the fanbook Yuuji became her fan after seeing Silver Linings Playbook (2012).

Super Smash Bros. (Ep5)

When the second years first ask Nobara and Megumi to participate in the Kyoto School Goodwill Exchange Event, Nobara's first thought is a Smash Bros. tournament. She'll use Meteor Smash so you can't get back up. All the better if it's the Wii version.

Onita (Ep6)

When Yuuji first starts lamenting his lack of ability to use a Curse Technique, Gojo cuts in that Yuuji can use a power bomb. Because it's something Japanese wrestler Atsushi Onita (who is not a sorcerer as far as we know) can do anyway.

Shonen power techniques (Ep6 cont.)

Yuuji then proceeds to list several other abilities from other shonen series. The Spirit Gun from Yu Yu Hakusho, Bankai from Bleach, and Dodon Ray and Kamehameha from Dragon Ball.

Lord of the Rings (Ep7)

For his training on controlling Cursed Energy, Yuuji is made to watch a variety of movies. For the adaptation, the animators interpreted the cry for Sam as a scene from Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001).

Actually, in the manga, Akutami was referencing I Am Legend (2007). The movie stars Will Smith and his only companion, a dog named Sam, in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Uh, things don't go well for the dog.

Gojo's other movies (Ch13)

Additionally, there were a few specific movies Akutami had in mind that wasn't carried over to the anime. (Though, honestly, some of these DVD covers in the anime look so familiar and detailed I suspect they are references to other movies. If anyone can identify any of them lmk!)

Anyway, here are the ones we know of in the manga!

Léon: The Professional (1994), The Descent (2005), The Host (2006), The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On (1967). And the movie that Gojo spoils about the super annoying heroine who dies spectacularly at the end is Deep Blue Sea (1999). And yes, if you squint and zoom you can see which dvd has the cover for what movie.

Oikawa Tōru (Ep9)

A blink and you'll miss it stand-in of someone that suspiciously looks like Oikawa Tōru from Haikyuu!!

Castaway (Ep11)

Yuuji makes Junpei laugh when the former unexpectedly recreates the scene from Cast Away (2000) when Tom Hanks' character loses his illusory best friend...

Neon Genesis Evangelion (Ep11, Juju Stroll)

This entire Juju Stroll is a parody of Neon Genesis Evangelion episode previews. With shots that are reminiscent of NGE and a dramatic and frantic voiceover. The standout shot to me was the one of Yaga sitting with his hands folded in front of him in classic Gendo Ikari fashion. They even had Yaga sitting over a burning camp stove just so they could get the orange glow reflecting off his glasses. Ha!

Luncheon on the Grass

The full convergence of all the characters was completed by episode 13 in the first opening. The idyllic scene is based off of Luncheon on the Grass (aka Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe) by Claude Monet. I like how Panda is in place of the dog.

I wonder if Todo being half naked here is further reference to the more scandalous, The Luncheon on the Grass, by Édouard Manet which is what Monet's own painting is a direct take on. (That painting depicts a nude woman sitting with two fully dressed gentlemen.) ...Or it could just be Todo being Todo.

Ichiro?! (Ep15)

Utahime, incensed, tells Gojo to respect his senpai! I'm a bit hesitant about this one, but it may be a reference to Ichiro Suzuki jokingly complaining about not being respected as a senpai during the 2009 World Baseball Classic celebration. Baseball is HUGE in Japan, and the celebration looks wild. It may be iconic enough that it can be casually mentioned and most Japanese would know what Yuuji was talking about. Also, considering the Jujutsu Koshien episode about to come up, it may've been foreshadowing. (Found here)

Sebastian Stan (Ep15, Juju Stroll)

Another famous American celebrity! When asked about her type in episode 15's Juju Stroll, Momo was drooling over a picture of Sebastian Stan. Stan is most well known for playing the Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes in the MCU. I wonder why her answer didn't pass muster with Todo. Maybe she hadn't had the chance?

Pepper (Ep16)

Nobara, smack-talking to Momo, says the Kyoto school have their own "Pepper-kun" that she should turn into scrap. Mechamaru immediately knew she was referring to himself. 😆 Pepper is the semi-humanoid robot that SoftBank introduced at a conference in 2014.

Great Teacher Gojo (Ep18)

Great Teacher Onizuka, aka GTO, is a classic series about a former biker gang member becoming the best teacher to a class of problem children.

Boogie Woogie

Boogie-woogie is a genre of music, but Todo's Cursed Technique, "Boogie Woogie" is specifically a reference to boxer, Muhammad Ali, who was recorded playing boogie-woogie on camera. (Which ties into an even more extensive reference regarding his mentor. But I won't spoil it here for anime-onlys.) I dare say, Todo's attitude may be a bit Ali inspired too. Haha

Ma-kun of Tohoku (Ep21)

When up to bat during Jujutsu Koshien, Nobara says people call her "the Ma-kun of Tohoku" which... doesn't make sense, since Masahiro Tanaka (affectionately called "Ma-kun" by fans) is already a baseball player for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. 😂

Additional trivia: JJK did a collab with the Rakuten Eagles in September of 2022.

Game of Life (Ep24)

And finally, we end the season with some of our villains playing The Game of Life board game. That spinner, colors, and design are pretty unmistakable. Something extra I spotted is that Choso already managed to get married!

Gojo Satoru's Go Go Gojo! (Ep6)

The Juju Stroll at the end of episode 6 references the Igo/Go game series Hikaru no Go. At the end of Hikaru no Go episodes were post-episode segments called "Umezawa Yukari's Go Go Igo!"

Props to r/sofastsomaybe for pointing this out, because like a fool, I dismissed the Go reference as a coincidence.

Anne Sullivan, Helen Keller, and Inoki (Ep15)

During Todo's nichijo fantasy of himself and Yuuji, Todo quotes, "What fool thinks of defeat before even trying?" Incorrectly attributing the quote to something teacher Anne Sullivan said to disability activist, Helen Keller. Todo is actually paraphrasing pro-wrestler, mixed martial artist, Antonio Inoki. Who said, "What kind of idiot thinks about losing before [the match]?" during a pre-match interview.

Seishun Amigo (Ep15)

At the end of that same daydream, with tears and snot streaming down his face, Todo says, "'In our hometown we were invincible,' huh." (地��じゃ負けしらず) Which are a part of lyrics from the popular song, "Seishun Amigo" (青春アミーゴ) by Shūji to Akira. "Seishun" means "youth" and "amigo" of course being the Spanish word for "friend."

Amusingly, I found this JJK fan cover video of the song. Lyrics translation included.

As for your juicy questions...

How did I get into writing?

I'm so honoured that you like my style. That is such high praise coming from a poet like yourself! 🥹 When I was a kid I loved reading and words and stories. My first "career ambition" was expressed at 9, I wanted to be an author! And when I was a teenager, I occasionally wrote stories, and I wrote loads of fanfic from 15-17 (it was a lifeline for me at that time too!). But I had really low self esteem so it was a struggle to maintain creativity alongside the self doubt and perfectionism, and trying to be A High Achiever and all the rest of it. So I lost the habit of writing. I did write some poems when I was in my early twenties, and blogged a fair bit, but didn't have the presence of mind to write stories. Life got in the way. I forgot that I have a writer's soul.

And then in 2021 I did a creative writing course, and started writing a novel on and off. I then got BG3 brainrot last year, the novel fell to the wayside (lol) because of fanfic, and now I'm here!

My novel is 2/3 of the way through, and I hope to one day finish it and get it published! I would like to be a full time writer eventually 💜

She is my greatest influence. I hope to write like her one day! Every word she writes is poetry. So much wisdom and pain and beauty, so much economy in her writing. Her books have transformed me. I just love her work so much.

* The Greenlanders by Jane Smiley

I love the Icelandic sagas and this book basically reads like a real saga from the Viking age. It's incredible. Like something unearthed from the ancient depths.

*The Hours by Michael Cunningham

When I first read this book I felt like it illuminated a fundamental universal truth and cracked my soul open. I need to re-read it...

Thananchai Sitsongpeenong vs Yodwicha Por Boonsit - Rajadamnern World Series - Final

First time I think I've posted a RWS fight.

Thananchai Sitsongpeenong won the 2023 Rajadamnern World Series Super Welterweight title, beating out talent like Yodwicha and Petchmorakot in the process. With that under his belt, the Thai fighter decided to move over to kickboxing. He will be Thailand's representative in the return of the K-1 World Max this year.

Thananchai will be part of the K-1 World MAX 2024 - World Tournament Opening Round card this Tuesday (March 19 in the US) when he faces off with kickboxing veteran Davit Kiria in an elimination round for the tournament. Card is available on Triller TV.

Spider Li Into The Spiderverse

➥ summary: (Y/n) Li was a normal teenage girl until she had been bitten by a radioactive spider one day after coming home from the gym, now she isn’t so normal. With abilities like non other (Y/n) goes from being this normal teenager to this crime stopping super hero Spider Li! But out-worldly forces come into play when other spider people start visiting her world to find out more about her. ➥ chapter 1: A Fateful Encounter

The gym pulsed with energy as the sound of gloves hitting punching bags filled the air. I stood in the midst of the bustling training space, focused and determined, preparing for an upcoming kickboxing match. Sweat trickled down my brow as I honed my skills, channeling my passion and dedication into each powerful strike.

As the end of my training session neared, my phone vibrated in my pocket, signaling an incoming call. I glanced at the screen to see it was my mom calling. With a sigh, I stepped out of the ring and wiped the perspiration from my face before answering.

"Hey, Mom," I greeted her, my voice slightly breathless.

"Sweetie, it's time to come home," she said, her voice filled with warmth and concern. "Dinner is ready, and we've been waiting for you."

I nodded, acknowledging her words. "I'll be there soon. Just need to grab my things and shower."

Ending the call, I glanced around the gym, the familiar sights and sounds comforting in their own way. As I prepared to leave, something caught my eye—a vibrant blue spider, its delicate web ensnared in the doorway. An instinctive sense of compassion welled up within me, and without a second thought, I reached out to rescue the tiny creature from its perilous predicament.

Carefully cradling the spider in my hands, I marveled at its striking hue. Its tiny legs crawled gently against my skin, and I felt a sense of connection to this delicate being. Concerned for its safety, I resolved to find a safe spot for it outside the gym, away from the dangers of being crushed underfoot.

Unbeknownst to me, this simple act of kindness would set in motion a series of events that would forever change the course of my life. With the spider safely in my hands, I made my way out of the gym, bidding farewell to the familiar faces and the scent of sweat and determination that permeated the air.

As I strolled home, the sun began its descent, casting a warm golden glow over the city streets. Thoughts of the spider briefly crossed my mind, but I dismissed them as inconsequential, unaware of the hidden power that lay within its venomous bite.

Upon reaching home, I entered our cozy abode, greeted by the comforting aroma of a home-cooked meal. My mom stood by the kitchen counter, her smile brightening as she saw me walk through the door.

"Hey, sweetheart," she said warmly. "How was your training?"

I shrugged, a mix of exhaustion and satisfaction washing over me. "It was good. I'm getting ready for the upcoming kickboxing match. Hopefully, all this hard work pays off."

My mom nodded, her eyes filled with pride. "I have no doubt it will, my dear. You've always been dedicated and determined. Now, come and have dinner. You've earned it."

I took a seat at the dining table, the aroma of the freshly prepared food filling the air. As we shared a meal, laughter and conversation flowed freely, the love and warmth of our family bonding us together.

Throughout the evening, the spider's bite remained a distant memory, its significance unbeknownst to me. Little did I realize that this seemingly inconsequential encounter would soon unlock a hidden power within me, forever changing the course of my journey.

As the night settled in, I retreated to my room, ready to rest and prepare for the challenges that awaited me. The spider, nestled within its newfound sanctuary, continued its silent transformation, its venom coursing through my veins, subtly awakening a dormant strength within me.

One Championship: Conquest of Champions

It’s part of the series I’m doing with the DBZ characters as 80s to 90s Exercise Tycoons and their VHS tape covers.

Clearly, Android 18 was born to teach kickboxing.

I feel like Pokemon’s really missing out by not leaning more into its potential for Gap Moe. I, admittedly, might be misunderstanding that term. Still...

Basically, the vast majority of characters and trainer archetypes use pokemon that match perfectly with their appearance and ‘voice’.

A Delinquent archetype will use pokemon in-line with grunts from either their generation or past generations. Schoolchildren will have early forms of pokemon, typically as seen in the first few routes of the game. Pokemon Fans use either the series’ mascots or their generations’ Pikachu-But-Not.

If a character looks like they should have a certain kind of Pokemon, they will. If an archetype sounds like it’s inclined towards certain Pokemon, it is.

There are rare few exceptions, and they’re all Characters, not Archetypes.

Most recently is Allister, but Bugsy, Jasmine, Iris, Korrina, and Drasna all fit.

It can be argued that female fighting-type specialists might as well, but this tends to be counteracted by the fact that, cute girl next to a Machoke or no, they still tend to have designs and personalities that match archetypical female martial artists. Bea - and the usual Fight Girl or Karate Gal trainer type - are all Super Serious Martial Artist Chicks That Prove That Women Can Kick Ass Too, and Maylene is a Genki Girl Kickboxer (I think, it’s been a minute. She looks like a Genki Girl Kickboxer, she might just be in-line with others).

It could also be argue that Drasna doesn’t necessarily match what I’m talking, given her appearance, but... I like Drasna, so she gets to stay.

This might be because I’m currently fiddling around with writing a fanfiction, and that one of the concepts I’m working on for an MC is someone who’s really caring and understanding towards Dark- and Ghost-Types, but I want trainer types that do the same!

Admittedly, Characters and limited archetypes are simply better for this kind of thing. It’s a really good tool to build individual backstories without outright saying what’s going on. Like giving a meek looking girl some incredibly fierce looking pokemon - Dark- and Poison-types, especially - to show she’s afraid of being hurt, and so developed or purchased protection in a sort of “Scary Dog Privilege. Or designing a gym that’s based in a motorcycle club’s ‘Not-Bar’, but everyone inside has fairy-types or otherwise cute pokemon like that one that got a lot of attention a few years ago because they’d go for rides with a bunch of tiny dogs.

Still, I’m sure there’s archetypes that could work, too. Especially since all the trainer encounters in a given game a designed and not just... random.

Punch Out x Poppy Playtime: Helper AU #2

A sequel to the original but this time with the Super Punch Out and some of the original Punch Out characters. Please Enjoy!

Story: 

After some of the Playtime Co. employees went missing and the release the first wave of the Happy Helpers, a series of dress up action figures, the employees of the Playtime Co. 2nd division of the factory went missing and the second wave of the Happy Helpers have been released who resembles to the 2nd division employees. When the player and the 1st wave of Helpers were overpowered by the monsters, they were saved by the 2nd wave of Helpers, who they realized it was the missing 2nd division employees.

- Birdie as Billy Byrd “Birdie the Boxer” 

Billy Byrd is a 19 year old American 2nd division factory employee who is the BFF of Mac and Mika and is also juggling both school and work to support his life until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. Billy became Birdie the Boxer, a 2nd boxing Helper who is Mac’s BFF/rival. Birdie’s special feature has a boxing feature like Mac but  he delivers rapid punches to the monsters, and has a strong punched which knocks the monsters away to protect the player.

- Adarna (@nesssblog​’s Punch Out OC) as Leonora Agila Del Rosario “Adarna the Birdkeeper“ 

Leonora Agila Del Rosario is a 26 year old Filipino 2nd division factory worker who was raised by her grandmother, who told her stories about mythical creatures and epics of her home country, leading to her interest in literature until she went missing alongside her fellow 2nd division employees. She became Adarna the Birdkeepr who loves and takes care of different kinds of birds. Adarna’s special feature is that she has tiny mechanical birds to help her. The birds attack the monsters as a distraction to help the player escape. 

Adarna’s 2nd Outfit (Falconer) 

- Gabby Jay as Gabriel François Lavigne “Gabby the Waiter” 

Gabriel François Lavigne is a 56 year old 2nd division factory worker who has a bad habit of smoking and works as a waiter at a local restaurant until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. He became Gabby the Waiter, a French waiter Helper who serves people delicious food and refreshing drinks. Gabby’s special feature is a throwing feature where he throws plates and various cutlery to distract the monsters.  

Gabby’s 2nd Outfit (Bartender)

- Bob Charlie as Baron Ajani Whyte “DJ BC (Bob Charlie)” 

Baron Ajani Whyte is a 26 year old Jamaican 2nd division factory worker who has a love for music and dancing like Dean/Disco the Dancer until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. Baron became DJ BC (Bob Charlie), a Jamaican DJ Helper who loves to party. BC’s special feature is that he carries around a boombox which sends out soundwaves to knock the monsters out. 

BC’s 2nd Outfit (Party Time!) 

- Dragon Chan as Haitao Chen “Dragon the Warrior” 

Haitao Chen is a 22 year old British Chinese 2nd division factory worker who excels in kickboxing and martial arts until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. Haitao became Dragon the Warrior, a Chinese kung fu martial artist Helper who honors the name of his master and life. Dragon’s special feature is that he has powerful kicks able to send the monsters far enough from the player to escape.

Alejandro Bembe González is a 25 year old Cuban 2nd division factory worker who is a bit of a bookworm until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. He became Hurricane the Weather Hero, a Cuban weather elemental who, just like Mika, fights for justice and liberty. Hurricane’s special feature is the he is able to electrocute the monsters to stun them and use other weather-related attacks.

- Masked Muscle as Santiago Ángel Hernández “The Masked Muscle Luchador” 

Santiago Ángel Hernández is a 29 year old Mexican 2nd division factory worker who is a retired luchador and a prankster until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. He became The Masked Muscle Luchador, a Mexican luchador Helper who is very strong and egotistical. MM’s special feature is that he spits at the eyes of the monsters to give them a temporary loss of vision. 

MM’s 2nd Outfit (Day of the Dead) 

- Heike Kagero as “Kagero the Kabuki Dancer” 

Heike Kagero is a 19 year old Japanese 2nd division factory worker, who, just like Mac, Billy and Mika, juggling both school and work to support his life and is a amateur Kabuki dancer until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. He became Kagero the Kabuki Dancer, a Japanese kabuki dancer Helper who is both beautiful and graceful, even though he is a man. Kagero’s special feature is that he uses his dances to possibly distract the monsters and throwing sharp fans at them to do damage.

- Mad Clown as Leonardo Esposito “The Mad Clown” 

Leonardo Esposito is a 27 year old Italian 2nd division factory worker who wears clown makeup to work, cracks jokes and is a retired opera singer turn circus clown until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. Leonardo became The Mad Clown, an Italian clown Helper who is a jokester and loves making people laugh. MC’s special feature is that he has numerous tricks up his sleeve, his juggling balls, when throwing them deal huge damage.

- Narcis Prince as Nathaniel Howard Prince “Prince the Narcistic” 

Nathaniel Howard Prince is a 20 year old British 2nd division assistant manager who is always full of himself but sometimes acts like a gentleman, growing up in a wealthy family until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. He became Prince the Narcistic, a British prince Helper who is both narcistic and noble. Prince’s special feature is that his scepter is actually a sword and turn his crown into a shield to defend the player from the monsters.

Hoy Xu Quarlow is a 78 year old Chinese 2nd division factory worker who always bring great advice to people until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. He became Master Hoy, a Chinese kung fu master Helper who is Dragon’s master. Hoy’s special feature is that he carries a staff around which is hard hitting and is able to incapacitate monsters.

- Rick and Nick Bruiser as Richard Phillips and Nicholas Phillips “The Bruiser Brothers” 

Richard and Nicholas Phillips are 28 year old American 2nd division factory workers who are twins with different personalities: Richard is rowdy, cheerful and lazy and Nicholas is smart, serious and quiet until they both are missing alongside their fellow 2nd division employees. They became The Bruiser Brothers, two American fighter Helpers who work together as a team. The Bruisers’ special feature are that they use their bare fists to fight the monsters to protect the player from danger.

- Pizza Pasta as Giovanni Colombo “Chef Pizza” 

Giovanni Colombo is a 38 year old Italian 2nd division factory manager who owns a pizzeria and has a love for cooking until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. Giovanni became Chef Pizza, an Italian chef Helper who loves Italian cuisine. Pizza’s special feature is that he has a throwing feature like Gabby but he throws pizza dough and knifes at the monsters.

- Kid Quick as Floyd Gideon “Kid the Runner”  

Floyd Gideon is a 20 year old American 2nd division factory worker who is Dean’s cousin and is also fast triathlon athlete until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. He became Kid the Runner, an American runner who is really fast and quick. Kid’s special feature is that he has a winding feature, just like Aran, which makes him able to run very fast to distract the monsters.

- Mr. Dream as Kyle J. Daryl “Mr. Dream the Boxer” 

Kyle J. Daryl is a 33 year old American 2nd division factory moderator who is quite the soft-spoken guy and is a bit of a Care Bear collector until he went missing alongside his fellow 2nd division employees. Kyle became Mr. Dream the Boxer, another American boxer Helper who is both Mac and Birdie’s rival. Mr. Dream’s special feature is that he uses his Dreamland Express Punch is incredibly strong, able to knock multiple monsters away.

Kazuki Osaki vs Toki Tamaru - RISE 142

If you like kickboxing, there's one hell of a tournament kicking off this week. RISE will have a 54 kg tournament featuring 3 of its champions. It should be fun!

RISE super flyweight champion Kazuki Osaki and RISE flyweight champion Toki Tamaru will be two of the RISE champs featured in the tournament. Both have foreigners in the first round. Osaki will face off with Fred Cordeiro and Tamaru will face off with Thai fighter Petchsila Wor Auracha. Rise World Series 2023 1st Round will go down this Sunday (July 2).

Carsonas - The Untamed Edition

This came about last night as @subtlybrilliant and I were texting and now I’m going to inflict it upon the Internet for all to share. Full disclosure, some of this is now canon in my Demon Ink universe and I’m not sorry. I’m also not sorry for the word “carsonas” but it’s basically “What would they drive in a modern au?”

Nie Mingue: Big black super cab truck with a 6 foot long bed. Is he compensating? No. Does he like to go to the gym, help people move, and still have enough room for his friends to lounge comfortable in his truck? Yes. 

Lan Wangji: A Subaru sedan or Nissan Altima, white on white (white leather, no less with heated seats). It’s practical, good for carting friends (and future family) around, and has decent gas mileage, but not ostentacious. 

Lan Xichen: Hands down a Subaru Outback in silver. Why? Cause he’s gay. Also, when him and Nie Mingue end up adopting twin girls who love kickboxing, soccer, and playing cello, the space will come in handy. 

Jiang Cheng: An American sports car, probably a Camaro. Black with purple racing stripes with interior to match. Is he compensating? You bet your ass he is.

Nie Huaisang: Rarely drives (see da-ge and the Lan bros above) but when he does, he has a Porsche 911. It’s pristine. No one knows how he afforded it, but he insists it’s pronounced “poor-sha”.

Jin Zixun: This fucker drives a BMW Z4 (2 door coupe) and does not use his blinker. 

Jin Zixuan: BMW 300 series sedan, because he’s a family man, not a monster. He also ALWAYS uses his blinker and is redeemed. 

Jiang Yanli: She did not drive a lot in high school but now proudly has a fancy minivan, which is good for carting around your thirty-year old brothers as well as babies. 

Wei Wuxian: Although he canonically does not have a car in Demon Ink, if he did/when he does, it would be red, with mismatched doors, more rust than car, and always be out of gas.

Your friend somehow convinces you to go to a kickboxing class, bribing you with ice cream afterwards

You: …what do you mean I have to leave my bed

Honestly you’re scared because you’re out of shape and definitely nothing close to a regular at the gym

You arrive at the gym with your friend, and you enter the kickboxing room

There’s around 15 people in the class, but the instructor hasn’t arrive yet

You stretch with your friend, mentally preparing yourself to absolutely die LMAO

Around five minutes before the class begins, this tall guy walks in with a duffel bag

To put it simply, HE WAS BEAUTIFUL,, and you definitely weren’t the only one looking

As he puts his things down in the corner, you can see his back muscles flexing under his tight black shirt he just hits so different in all black I’m about to bark

He takes out his boxing tape, wrapping his hands in it, and then he introduces himself,,,

“Hi everyone, welcome to beginning kickboxing! My name is Kuroo, and I’m going to be helping everyone with drills throughout the class. Let me know if you need anything before we begin.”

Let’s be honest, Kuroo’s workout playlist BANGS,, he’s a big fan of Roddy Ricch, J.Cole, Nicki, Kendrick, Meg, and Travis

You, praying: can I not embarrass myself in front of this man thanks !

He puts the music on, instructing everyone through a warm-up from the front of the studio

Kuroo is such a great teacher, and he somehow makes it so fun and engaging, king shit!!

Ugh he has such great energy and gets everyone encouraged and pumped up, he’s also SO smiley and approachable

After the warm up, everyone slips on their gloves with ease, ofc,,, except for you

Dear god he’s about to start and you’re not ready

Your friend isn’t helping you, she wants you to ask for help LMAOOO

You finally suck it up and raise your hand, and he walks over to you

Kuroo: hey can I help you out with that?

You: WHY IS HE SO HOT?? AND RESPECTFUL????

He carefully helps you get the gloves onto your hands, making sure you’re comfy before jogging back up to the front of the classroom you blacked out for a few minutes

He takes everyone through the movements, starting basic with how to hit the bag, posture, and form

Kuroo eventually gives everyone drills to do, and he walks around the room to see if anyone needs assistance

You’re trying your best and really getting into it, until he walks around and gives you a cute smile and a thumbs up please how am I supposed to focus on not dying when you’re like this sir

Your friend is nudging you,,,

“dude he’s totally into you, I’ve taken classes with him before and he doesn’t do that to just anyone”

Your stomach is erupting in butterflies at her words or maybe you’re trying not to yak, but you’re trying not to get your hopes up

The class is coming to an end, and it somehow went by so fast?? Maybe because you spent half of it staring at Kuroo’s arms as he hits the punching bag

You are super sweaty but the workout was refreshing and you definitely want to try kickboxing again ,,, especially if Kuroo is the instructor

He gets the attention of the class after going through a cool-down routine

“Thank you so much for being amazing everyone! I hope to see some of you in my intermediate level classes, or just around the gym in general, don’t be a stranger!”

You start to pack up your things, everyone else besides your friend and Kuroo having left the room

Your friend suddenly: bye! It was so nice meeting you today sis! Text me when you get home!

SHE LEFT YOU I-

You’re confused for a second since she literally drove you to the gym, but before you can say anything someone is tapping your shoulder

You turn around,,,shaking in your boots,,,, Kuroo is standing there with his bag slung around his shoulder, wiping his face with a towel

He looks so good sweaty please

Him: hey, was this your first session? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in any of my classes… I definitely would’ve remembered you ;) we all know he practiced this in his head for the entirety of the class because he’s a DORK in actuality

Bro all you can do is squeak out a “yes”

He asks for your number, and offers to train you personally at the gym,, HOT

You walk out of the building a blushing mess, and then you see your friend sitting outside in her car LMAO

Her, as you get in the passenger seat: so,, did you secure the bag

You: WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME

Her: I did what I had to do get you a friend

So you’re a regular at the gym, but you haven’t really tried any of the classes offered through your membership

You sign up for a spin class that takes place every Wednesday morning, thinking it would be nice to get a workout in before work

It was not

You had to wake up at 5 am to eat something and get dressed for the class, and you find yourself dragging yourself into the locker rooms to put your things away

With sleep still evident in your features, you go to sit at one of the spin machines, resting your head on the handle waiting for impending doom

A guy walks in rocking an all-white and grey fit and puts his things down next to you, but you don’t really pay attention to him or make an effort to look at him properly

Everyone slowly trickles into the spin room, chatting amongst themselves and you’re not really sure how anyone is functioning this early

Then,, the dude next to you stands up and turns around, speaking into his head set

“Good morning everyone, welcome to intermediate spin, my name is Iwaizumi and I will be your instructor! Please be ready to go in five minutes,”

You didn’t even realize you sat next to the instructor seat lmao, and you’re stunned by how nice the man’s voice is!!! Not only did he have a nice voice, but you also overlooked him as an instructor because he was so young looking

So once everyone is ready to go, he hops onto the bike next to you

His playlist consists of Bad Bunny, electronic, and a lot of RnB the taste jumped out

As you start the machine and it shows the route that the bike is supposed to take, Iwa starts talking about the goal of the workout and the motivation its going to take to finish

We love a professional !!!

The class is hard; mostly because it’s your first time but you make it through thanks to Iwaizumi’s skilled teaching style, and the way he doesn’t leave anyone behind even if they are struggling

It also helped that he was next to you most of the session you could see every droplet of sweat on his beautiful face and tanned arms

You feel great after every session, feeling like you’re accomplishing something, and you get to see your little crush every Wednesday

It definitely makes it easier to get out of bed in the morning

You make small talk with Iwa since he’s right next to you, and slowly it progresses into a really nice friendship

You help him set-up and clean-up the room before and after class, and he brings you coffee in return (he knows your order by heart🥰)

Him: good morning

You: fuck off loser👹

Him: I brought you coffee

You: ☺️hey Iwa

He’s honestly so great at his job, and he tells you that he got into cycling because of the side-training he did for volleyball

One session near the end of the cycling classes, you were having a rough time and in a bad mood because of work, and Iwa lowkey helped you work through it within that one workout session and you felt so much better by the end of it how does he do it

You, dying: Iwa I can’t go on

Him: You fucking panini head who said you were allowed to stop

The forty year old soccer mom on the other side of him: Iwa I can’t go on

Him: You’re doing amazing sweetie! Don’t hurt yourself, you got this!😘

…t-that’s when you realize you have feelings for him, but you’re not really sure how to go about telling him

You stress over it for the next week, and in no time you find yourself walking into your last class with Iwa as your instructor sad girl hours

You had bought him a sweatband as a joke and embroidered his initials on it, and you were planning on giving it to him at the end of class

He greets you the same as usual, and then turns and thanks everyone for sticking with the class

The session is amazing of course, but you’re feeling such a mix of emotions as the seconds on your machine dwindle down to 0:00

A few people come up to Iwa to thank him, and you purposely pack up your things and stretch super slowly

Finally, you are the only two people left in the room

He finishes cleaning off the seats, and then he turns to you as you’re turning the machines off,

His steel eyes are boring into you, and he’s cracking his knuckles nervously

“h-hey, would you maybe want to go out with me sometime?”

NOT WHAT YOU WERE EXPECTING-

You blush,, but in the best way possible;

You reach over to pinch his rosy cheek, obviously saying yes

You reach into your bag and throw the sweatband at him

He catches it, laughing as he admires the stitchwork on it

Him, knowing you embroidered it yourself: omg aw did Helen Keller stitch this?😍

You: for personal reasons I will be revoking my agreement to go on any kind of date with you

Before you leave the gym with your fresh coffee, you give him a kiss on the cheek and he literally can not stop thinking about how crazy he is about you !!
